Engagement ethics

Whilst most research programmes will adhere to the ethics policies of their institutions, these often benefit from – and in terms of informed consent require – their explanation, discussion and agreed mutual interpretation with the communities most directly affected by the research. Whilst this is true in general, it may be considered an even more important issue in contexts where, for political or cultural reasons, there may be little shared understanding of the issues or a lack of trust.
