Community

Community in this context usually applies to a geographic community surrounding the location of research activity but it may also apply to a potentially relevant community of practice or to people who identify as having a certain condition which may be the subject of research. The prime aim of community engagement is to build trust and confidence in the organisation’s work within the community.  This may range from issues of basic co-existence to explanations of the rationale and benefits of the research to the creation of employment opportunities, science scholarships and career pathways for local people.
